Supporting Distance Learning
With so much of the world in uncharted waters the idea of distance learning is another unknown. Do young children learn effectively through this model of teaching? We are about to find out. I feel we have been advocating less screen time for children and suddenly it is the method of choice for learning/teaching. Learning by the click of a mouse?
This is going to be one interesting school year. The talk I hear is 30-60 days 100% distance learning and then a reassessment of Covid matrixes. The problem with 30—60 days from now is we butt into influenza season. With the world only tracking Covid cases, we truly have no idea what flu season is going to look like this year.
We here at Coronado Prep want to assure our distance learners succeed. A local charter school model I was trained on was very impressive and comprehensive, it will be a lot of work for any supervising teacher to manage.
The success of these children is our goal. These models include live instruction with breaks and daily course work which needs to be accomplished, including but not limited to grade level reading, math, social studies and specials.
Our goal is to supervise, assist and make sure all course work is completed in the “school period” of 8am-3pm. Just as when children go to school, their learning is completed during those hours.
We plan on making sure we do the same, as our parents have to work and are relying on us to help get everyone through this very trying time in the world.
